Johanna is arrogant and glib, hard to ruffle, and easy to joke. She knows how skilled she is and is unapologetic for her ego when it comes to that. Her outward conceit and quick wit is a glossy armor for her self-loathing and haunted past.

FRIENDS

Chas Chandler, Constant companion;
One of her closest friends, Chas has been dragged hither and yon as Johanna's driver, sounding board, guinea pig and bait.
Zed Martin, Eye candy;
Zed found Johanna after months of a psychic connection in which Zed was drawing pictures of her over and over. They became unlikely cohorts, and Johanna may have a little thing for her.
Rochelle Simpson, Brilliant hacker;
Ritchie and Johanna have had a checkered relationship since Ritchie decided she didn't want to play the arcane knowledge game anymore. She'll help from time to time, but not happily.
Gary Lester, Oldest friend;
Gaz and Johanna knew each other back when they were little kids growing up in Liverpool. Gaz had a fairly cush life growing up, and was just happy to be kicking around with Jo once they both caught up again in London. He eventually got addicted to hard drugs, and during one of his highs, he contained (and subsequently released) a hunger demon. Eventually, he had to sacrifice himself to keep the demon from wreaking havoc on earth.

Johanna's childhood was more hellish in her personal opinion than any true Hell. Her mother died giving birth to her and her stillborn twin, and her frequently drunk father took it out on her for her entire childhood. After years of abuse, Johanna ran away from Liverpool to London at the age of 17, and leaned into the dark arts in a bid to find a way to connect to her mother. While there, she made friends in the local punk scene, and soon became frontwoman for a new band, Mucous Membrane. They recorded one album, and spent time touring the UK.

Her friends were all spellbound (forgive the pun) by Johanna's natural charisma and magical ability. It was during one fateful stop at their tour that she and her chums did a drunken ritual which culminated in a friend of her's daughter, Astra, becoming possessed. In her attempt to exorcise Astra, the girl was dragged to hell. Johanna took full blame for the night, and it's haunted her ever since.

She checked herself into Ravenscar Asylum for a number of years, trying to come to terms with the fact that she saw a little girl get swallowed up into the pits of Hell, all because of one of her stupid rituals. She eventually checked herself out once she saw the state of things ramping up in madness outside the walls of the Asylum.

Ever since, in addition to trying to find a way to contact her mother, she's also been trying to save Astra from Hell. She's become a master of the dark arts, gathering knowledge of the arcane from all corners of the earth, including realms not of Earth itself.

ABILITIES

Exorcism

One of the greatest exorcists alive today, Johanna can get any kind of spirit (human or otherwise) out of the body of a human. She's got more than just Christian magic to drive away the spirits that come after her.

Dark Arts

Dark magic is the wheelhouse of Johanna. Ranging from little illusion magic to full on necromancy, she's capable of more than just a little sleight of hand (though she's cracking at that too.) Having collected magic from everywhere and everyone she could, she can perform rituals, rites, incantations and spells from just about every belief known and unknown to man.

Having more than just magic to get by, Johanna can Sherlock up Holmes 'til Baskerville is Hounded.

Con(wo)man

She pays for nothing, using her skills in pickpocketing, con plays, and her sheer charisma to get everything she needs from anyone.

MISC

🔥 She comes from a long line of mages with questionable motives. Not everyone up her line was magically inclined. Her (coincidentally named) ancestor, Lady Johanna Constantine was a well-known mage known as the Laughing Lady (or the Laughing Magician, depending on who you asked,) who made a deal with Morpheus the Dream Lord to get back her daughter from Hell, after Pandora's Box sucked the girl into it.

🔥 Demon Blood: Although her soul is damned, that doesn't mean Johanna came pre-packaged with demon blood. That came after a little whoopsie involving invoking Pazuzu and letting him enter her body. It took a bit to exorcise him from her, but now she's got a little blood issue. She doesn't age quickly - in fact, it's unlikely she's actually only 34 years old. Some say she may actually be something closer to 65 years old.
